They may soon be coming to a neighborhood near you. Apparently, they are an invasive species from Central America, and are working their way north along the coast. I've been fortunate never to have had a problem driving through them, but I do remember a time I was sitting outside on a lawn. Literally, one minute there was nothing, 5 minutes later they were everywhere, coming out from the lawn. It was like someone had thrown a switch. They have an incredible sense of timing. To me at least, they don't seem to be as numerous in FL as they were. Today's pollen count in ATL is 1705. ========================================== I've been in Florida full time for 16 years and the love bug population may vary from year to year. Last year was as bad or worse than I've ever experienced. *After even the shortest drives in the car I had to get out the bug remover and clean them off when returning home. If we take trips during the "season" I carry required cleaning supplies to clean the car before the little devils can damage the paint. I was in Orlando way back somewhere around 74 and was my first experience with them. Then I lived in the Tampa area for 15 years in the 80's and didn't seem to see them in anywhere near the concentration that I seen that year in Orlando. It may just be because it was my first sighting. |
