Well if you want to look on the positive side, as least it is not as
obnoxious as "Love Bugs". I was in Orlando when they swarmed and that
was nasty.
They may soon be coming to a neighborhood near you. Apparently, they are
an invasive species from Central America, and are working their way north
along the coast. I've been fortunate never to have had a problem driving
through them, but I do remember a time I was sitting outside on a lawn.
Literally, one minute there was nothing, 5 minutes later they were
everywhere, coming out from the lawn. It was like someone had thrown a
switch. They have an incredible sense of timing.
To me at least, they don't seem to be as numerous in FL as they were.
Today's pollen count in ATL is 1705.

I've been in Florida full time for 16 years and the love bug population may
vary from year to year. Last year was as bad or worse than I've ever
experienced. *After even the shortest drives in the car I had to get out the
bug remover and clean them off when returning home.
If we take trips during the "season" I carry required cleaning supplies to
clean the car before the little devils can damage the paint.
I was in Orlando way back somewhere around 74 and was my first
experience with them. Then I lived in the Tampa area for 15 years in
the 80's and didn't seem to see them in anywhere near the
concentration that I seen that year in Orlando. It may just be because
it was my first sighting.
