Lung issues again... I am getting a little nervous this time as the

Stay out of the barn.

Mrs.E. brought one of her horses back to our barn yesterday. It only took
a half hour hanging around in there before I could feel my chest tightening
and mild wheezing to start due to the hay and dust. In my case it's
obviously an allergy.

Good luck.

My life would be a lot different if I had not taken so long last year
to address a bronchitis (sp?). I let it go way too far and scarred up
a good chunk of my right lung. Now everything bothers me, I really
screwed up, and all because I had company in for a couple of weeks
from out of town and did not want to take time to go get some meds for
the "bad cold". I have a lot of problem accepting that..

I started smoking when I was 11 and quite when I was 40. Six years
without a cigarette and I still haven't recovered fully and I fear I may
never recover even 75% of normal lung function. Good luck.

Wanna know something weird?

I smoke cigars and the occasional cigarette and have for - well, say
thirty years or more.

My lung functions is 100% of what it was 30 years ago. And I know
this because I've used the same allergist for the past 30 years and he
has tests going back that far for comparison.

Strange huh?

My father-in-law has smoked cigarettes for 50 years, two or three packs
a day. He got lung cancer, not from cigarettes but from hexivalent (sp?)
crhomium. He manage chemical production plants for 35 years.

Due to the lack of nuns the priests switched to young boys and that has
reduced the number kids in orphanages too.

Not really. I've been a 2-3 pack a day smoker for 47 years, and don't
notice any lung deterioration, unless I'm not sitting down or in bed.

thirty five or so..

Mine was 39. Got a spot of emphysema (sp?), but it's not gotten any bigger
over the past eight years. I'm keeping my fingers, toes, and everything
else crossed.

One of the worse thing's I've ever seen was a friend's dad in Jellico,
TN a miner with black lung before unions made mining semi-safe. He
wasn't over 50 at the time that I knew him, and he parked his car
right next to the house. He would walk to the car from his favorite
seat at the kitchen table, it would be 10 or 12 paces. He would be
totally spent. Just gasping for air.
