I am going to be the arsehole here I think. But ffs they new the risks. They
bought a ferro boat and if the insurance company wont cover it, that must
have been a warning straight away. Now they are asking for money. Sorry, I
think there are a lot more needy people in the world. They appear to both be
healthy working age adults who can start again. I lost it all when my ex
wife cleaned me out. Is someone going to donate to my cause? I dont think
so! What I had to do was keep working rather than putting my hand out for
someone else to ease the burden of my financial problems. Sorry if this
appears a little harsh. But welcome to reality.

They do suggest setting up a system that others with similar problems can
turn to for help. I don't think a community of people helping each other
out is such a bad idea.

I've heard that ferro-cement boats are durable and easy to repair.. so why
won't insurance companies insure them? Just a thought.

In any case, them asking for help in no why obligates you to provide it.
I can't afford to at this time, but I would certainly consider it were my
personal finances in order.

There is a system in place. It was created after the 98 Hobart race. However
it is for the families of sailors lost at sea. Its not designed to buy
someone a new boat. As I mentioned before, the couple new the risks of
owning a frerro boat. Sadly for them, the cards werent in their favour and
they lost the boat. Dont get me wrong. I sympathise with their loss.

This simply appears to be an extention of the dole however. They want other
people to support thier lifestyle. The Socialists amoung us may believe the
couple deserve to be given a new boat and will most likely send them money.
So be it. But with so many underprivaliged kids on this planet, I find the
idea proposterous.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't the other boat owners insurance cover at
least part of the loss?

Act of god, they drug anchor, and all that, but you'd of thunk the big
hunk of steel boat sitting on top of them would be held at least
partially responsible for creating a new reef.

Maybe next time they'll carry a couple of heavy storm anchors and learn how
to anchor. No excuse for what happened other than incompetence.
