Doug's a good example of the kind of top caliber boater who no longer bothers participating here. What a shame. They can be darn proud of their accomplishment. Sort of like checking something off the "bucket list." Everybody has a few lifetime cruising ambitions, but not everybody has the time, money, and courage to realize any of them. Other than taking a long river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, with lots of stops along the way, I have no "lifetime cruising ambitions." To me, the destinations are important, not the transportation to same. Oh...I wouldn't mind transiting the Suez Canal. I never got to do that on my trip to Egypt. I like "day trips" in small boats, and even an occasional overnighter. Beyond that, I find "cruising" boring. |

Beyond that, I find "cruising" boring.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Harry, you should take that barge cruise in Europe, and book passage through the Suez. I know several people who have chartered canal barges, and all of them are enthused about the experience. Some have returned one or more times. It' on my list of things to do when I don't have to have a new product ready for distribution every 4 weeks. :-) Doug must have paid some attention to Mark Twain (I believe it was) who said something like, "On your deathbed, it's the things that you wanted to do but didn't, rather than anything you did, that you will most regret". Same goes for all of us, and we should use his adventure as an inspiration. |

I actually did some "Lobsta Boat" research last year and found it in the location described to us by the alleged owner. Further research revealed that it belonged to someone else, the owner of a large construction company in Maryland. Pictures on request. |
