Default Parker splash boards.../ How was the boat show?

I had some down time, so I started talking to the Parker dealer and
the subject of splash boards came up - I noticed that all the Parker
boats on display had splash boards on the open transom boats.

When I asked the question, he simply said that in his opinion, anyone
who doesn't use a spash board is asking for trouble when backing down
for any particular reason. Not to mention more water in the boat than
is nececssary in certain sea states.

Straight from the dealer. :)

That really wasn't nice, Tom. Did you know that (according to the
stats available through Google) several posters have logged an average
of more than 30-posts per day since the beginning of the year? Good
grief, it's become a full time job for some of them. How dismal is
that?
Now you've kicked off a huge "You're a this," "you're a that," feud
that will run up the totals for some even higher.

How was the boat show?

Ours starts on Thursday.

Just pointing out that not everything Parker revolves around the
Chesapeake Bay. :)

And because it's fun jerking Harry's chain every once in a while.

And that low transom thing never gets old. :)

Although it is getting a little long in the tooth.

How was the boat show?

Ugly - very ugly.

Lots of muttering about money wasted, etc. One solid week in Boston
and four leads - no sales. Heard via several of the reps I know that
there wasn't a lot of activity in any of the booths.

On the plus side, BRP is putting the Johnson brand into sleep mode for
a couple of years (nice little rumor about what the Johnson brand is
going to become) and ETECs are going to be produced in three new small
flavors - 9.9, 15 and 25 and being introduced in 2009.

Soon, ETEC will rule the world!!!

MMMUUUUUUAAAWWWWAAAAHHHHHAAAAAA!!!!!

Ours starts on Thursday.

The CMTA (Connecticut Marine Trades) show starts Thursday. That is
usually a producer of leads and actual sales. We'll see.

Of course Harry - you would know.

90% of the outboards on display were ETECs at Boston.

Setting up at the CMTA show yesterday, mostly ETECs. A few Verados,
very few Yamahas.

Only the stuck in the mud, Lego built Parkers were wedded to Yamaha.

Ancient technology - move up to the real world Harry - go ETEC.

You know you want to. :)

There are fewer eTecs on the water around here than Suzukis, and there
are very few Suzukis. If eTecs are so great, why are so few of them
being sold?

You could drive through the local marina on a weekday and maybe see one
or two eTecs, and this is a marina with several hundred outboard trailer
boats and outboards at slips.

The only places I hear about eTecs are here, when you pimp them, and on
one of the boating discussion groups, where your eTec clones try to
convince everyone you really don't have to buy two in order to assure
you are going to get back to shore.

My issue, by the way, isn't with eTec technology, per se. It's with the
brand, which its owners will dump without a second thought. There's no
Evinrude anymore.

Because people in Maryland and Virginia don't have a clue?

ETEC is making a real penetration in the four stroke market up here -
you are seeing more and more of them as the smarter folks actually
look into it and see that Yamaha - well, no other way to put it - is
largely made in China, less efficient, less power-to-weight ratio and,
frankly, suck. :)

Heh, heh, heh...

I was just pointing out what the Parker dealer said when I asked the
question. which seemed to run counter to what some of the bay boaters
were postulating.

Which moronic bay boater(s) were doing the postulating?

I doubt the rule the za world stuff. The motor is too complicated for lots
of the world. Why you see Yamaha 2 and 4 strokes and Honda's in Central and
South America. And other remote places. Seeing more Etec around here and
couple of guys I know that have them really like them. But the Ficht F'up
and the fact a bunch of people got stucking holding the bag when Warrantee's
went away, leaves a bad taste and worry with buyers. Until there is 10
years or so of Etec history of little failure and the company is going to be
in business, the sales are going to be small.

PS: Not my fault by the way. If the morons want to play that way,
that's their problem - not mine.
