There's a product called Act! that's been around forever. Might be overkill
depending on your needs, but it's loaded with features. I've been using it
since its DOS version in 1989 or so.

It's a weird product category. There aren't that many vendors trying to
compete with Outlook, which is essentially free. There are a few, though:

http://www.pcmag.com/products/0%2C%2...ts&stpdinglp=1

or

http://preview.tinyurl.com/2pn7jn

My problem with Outlook 2000 was that it had no place for adding written
notes that were connected with a contact.

Yes, especially if you're picky. I'm reviewing some, have discarded

all personal now - from my old VB app from circa Win95 days, which is
actually a nice address book with plenty of note space. Doesn't have
any calendar or alarm functionality to speak of, and it won't export
data either. Many of the type of app I'm looking for have all kinds
of stuff I don't want.

Right. It was real good for scheduling though. I looked at the
Outlook Express on my PC, and the address book looks the same as
Outlook's, but it doesn't even have a calendar.
I'll let you know when I find a calendar/contacts/alarm combo I like.

Be very careful if you ever try and share contacts between Outlook and
Outlook Express. They store the data differently, and although you won't
lose data, you will end up banging your head on the desk and wishing you
hadn't rocked the boat.

I have Outlook, but really wanted a small program to run in the

thought their must be a similar freeware product.

You can go to Download.com and download Post-It Notes Lite, which is

Thanks. I've decided to go to an integrated address
book/calendar/alarm app. Just have to find it.
I swear I could write just what I need, because I would admire the
author's judgement and skill.
But it would probably take me a couple months and more money to do it.
I've d/l'ed, installed, uninstalled about 10 so far, and am still
looking. When I find one I like, I'll recommend it.
Might give one I rejected a second look, since they aren't getting any

These same "folks" are perfectly OK with the honor of seeing our
soldiers die while invading the wrong country. Human life is
sacred.
Horse ****.

An unborn child has no control or choice and the decision is made
by
others based on what *they* think.
A volunteer soldier is one by *his/her* choice and understands (or
should) the risks and requirements of the job.

Eisboch

Once a soldier's in the service, he has a choice of going where
he's
told, or getting in trouble, right? That's not a choice, unless
AWOL
is
considered a good choice.

You obviously don't understand the concept of a military.
You don't pick and choose your duty and that is clearly understood
before you raise your right hand.
You are required to obey any "lawful" order. So there's your debate
...
is being ordered to Iraq a lawful order or not.
If our banana heads in Congress can't determine that, how the hell
does
a lowly Private decide?

Eisboch

The soldier joins by choice. The soldier has no legal choice about
the
mission he might end up with. He could end up spending the whole time
in
service training for a war that never happens. Or, he could be sent
into
the wrong mission. At that moment, he is no different from the unborn
child. He has no choice.

Strange logic.

A soldier joins by choice fully understanding (theoretically anyway)
that
he/she will have very limited choices during the duration of his/her
service. Military service includes a suspension of many "rights" that
a
civilian has and military personnel know that going in. An unborn
child
knows nothing and can't make a choice.

Eisboch

Oh well. The analogy makes sense to me.

Was it 'perfect'?

That 'anal-ogy' was just that. About as stupid as ****. Eisboch's just
too
damn nice to say it.

Do you really think the friggin' soldier joining today doesn't think he
'might' go to Iraq?
--
John H

You never saw me make such a claim. If you disagree, find the text which
proves what you say, and copy it into your next reply.

Eisboch made it very clear. Reread what he wrote.
--
John H

Read for comprehension. I never said what you think I said.

You heard me. And I don't need to do any personal attacking.

Ah, but if I were an OB/GYN, as I understand the law via a DIL who is
an OB/GYN (and I readily admit that may be state law, not Federal),
I'd be required to do that even if it were against my personal
religious belief.

I've not read of any doctors being disciplined by their local or state
medical boards for refusing to perform abortions, nor have I read of any
legal proceedings for the same reason. I have heard of some pharmacists
getting into a bit of trouble, nothing serious, for refusing to
prescribe the morning after pill.

Pharmacists running their own pharmacies should have the option of
carrying the medicines they choose.

Pharmacists and pharmacies are licensed for a specific purpose. They
are not permitted under their license to pick and choose which
prescriptions to fill. That would amount to practicing medicine
without a license. They are obligated by law to dispense whatever
prescription is written by a licensed doctor. Pharmacists are not
doctors and cannot supercede a Doctor's determination as to what the
patient should have or should not have.

This has been through court in several states. You can look the
results in each case if you wish.

Why are doctors given the freedom to not prescribe RU-486? I guess
diagnoses are subjective as well as the prescriptions. Even if the
diagnosis is the same the prescription can be different.

I went ahead and dug in, but when I saw it corrupting my
screen and leaving artifacts, I dumped it.
Looking for a PIM with good calendar and alarms now.
Actually missing Outlook a bit.

Try -

Already did. Managed to freeze that one.

Meaning, the program locked up? And the 3M post-it thing did weird things
to your screen?

Someone here suggested the free "Crawler" desktop notes, so I downloaded it
and am trying it. I like it. Seems to work fine and has produced no ill
effects on the computer. It claims to be spyware free and my "Spydoctor"
program has not detected anything new. I "did" choose to disable the
Crawler search engine though because having Yahoo's and Google is enough.

I'm not being a wise ass here, but why is this a problem?

Isn't that what calendars are for? Why does this have to be
automated?

Am I missing something?

Yep, had to kill the task. Then it wouldn't start because of
a "corrupted DB" error. I had simply clicked a function.
Can't remember what it was. Probably the "Warning! Don't click this
Bad Software Button!"

Artifacts all over the place. Didn't like it anyway.
I'm a gamer, and modern, demanding games work slick as ice without
tinkering. I'm not going looking for drivers/incompatabilities to get
a program I don't care about to work correctly. BTDT.
