To be totally honest, I've owned Ford cars and pickups for 40 years starting in high school. Never had a problem with one of them until this one. I have had 4 Ford trucks and 3 GMs. The Fords were a heluva lot better. You'd think the domestic manufacturers would have the comon pickup truck perfected by now. Why? JC Penney ruined the design for perfectly good white cotton undershirts. Why can't manufacturers just leave a good thing alone, if or when they find a design that works? |

... had my brand new F-150 Lariat Special Edition towed back from Greenville RI to the dealer in Webster, MA because... The brakes failed - as in F A I L E D - causing me to avoid a massive collision by jumping a curb and heading into the pucker brush. Then, to add insult to injury, when I restarted the engine after it stalled out, a horrendous noise and oil smoke started to pour out from under the hood. Brand new engine to boot. In a nut shell, this truck is a piece of s##t. This is the sixth major failure in 20 thousand miles. No, I'm not buying a Toyota so don't even suggest it. I am looking at GMC though. Heloise says: " Freshen up your dog by lightly dampening a microfiber cloth with water and wiping over its fur. If your cat or dog needs to get the gunk out of its eyes, a microfiber cloth will do the job nicely. And if your pet, like Cabbie, my miniature schnauzer, gets a dirty beard after eating, the cloth will remove that food crud." |

I figured maybe Tom could use a distraction from his truck headaches. |

Trying to find a business establishment in highly developed areas for example. The factory unit in one of our vehicles has a feature whereby you simply enter the telephone number of the business, store or whatever and the unit responds with directions. I've noticed that more often than not when someone is coming over to our house for the first time, they simply ask for the street address. No more detailed direction giving required. Might be some use Yahoo or other directions, like I do. But what's nice is having a cell phone, calling your destination, and saying, "Ok, I'm by the Shell station on Fripp, heading toward a Walgreens. Where do I go now?" --Vic |

In the engineering/design world it's called the "not invented here" syndrome and mechanical design engineers are the worst of the lot. If a sub-section of an assembly has been perfected over the years, works fine, lasts a long time, but the current engineer was not responsible for it's development and design, he/she will attempt to change it. I fought that battle for years in the business I was in. My son continues the battle to this day. Eisboch |
