I was in the marching band at high school. We actually had to march
AND play an instrument at the same time.

AND play at the same time. That's different.

My dad was in a mummers "crew" or club in Philly, where he grew up, and
marched around in a silly feathered costume and played a uke. The
mummers used to be a part of the macy's parade many years ago.

Remember them well from my childhood. Those feathered head dresses were
something to behold. I often wondered how they would hold up in a good
breeze.

Well, I'd think it'd take a lot more talent to do both at the same
time as opposed to just marching. We did both at the same time, and
didn't have to practice until our hands were tore up! Goes to show you
what type of people get picked for that service!

You ought to check out the USMC marching band from Headquarters, Washington.
There's a marching band. And, they play while they are marching.

The USMC silent drill team is by far the finest precision marching group
I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

You've not seen the Army's? They also do a fine job.
