fishing boat near the Kings Bay sub base in Georgia, and my memory on

I doubt that. The subs that use to base at Mare Island always had CG
escorts. And the bow wave exceeds anything else that I have ever
witnessed
as to wakes. And I fish near a couple of the offshore channels to SF bay.

Bow wave/wake - same damn thing in effect. :)

Nope, the sub bow wave is HUGE compared to any of the tanker wakes. Much
more affected by effect.

You can doubt it all you wish. It was covered on the TV news in Jax, and
there were a couple of articles in the area newspapers.

equalled and exceeded by those idiots who have no knowledge or common

to realize that on the water, wakes/waves may cause them problems under
many conditions and it's up to them to handle those problems so that their
passengers and their vessel can proceed, safely.

All my years of boating, and I have only had one real problem with a large
commercial ship. Couple of years ago I am fishing in San Francisco Bay off
Angel Island. I am outside the channel a short distance. I see a tanker
coming under the San Rafael Bridge. No problem. Yes problem, he is empty
and cutting the corner and is outside the channel. I am in 23' of water, so
plenty of depth for him Unfortunately I forget I have the drift sock out
and drive over it, locking up the kicker prop and covering intake to the
jet. I get on the radio and call the ship and he actually turns to pass me
between the island and me. We both screwed up. Me forgetting the drift
sock and he cutting corners and hoping there is no idiot with a dead boat in
the way. But I was impressed with their seamanship. Biggest problem in the
bay is sailboats. They think they have the right of way over everything.

There was an interesting incident a number of years ago on SF Bay
involving a very well known sailor and sailmaker named Lowell North.
He cut about 50 ft in front of a freighter during a sailboat race. The
freighter skipper reported him and he was fined a large amount by USCG
for failing to stay clear (it was in a traffic lane). North argued
that 50 ft was more than enough for safe passage in front of the ship
and that as an experienced racing skipper he had his vessel totally
under control.

The Coast Guard was not impressed.
