The "second generation" Dodge Sprinters (late 2006 and 2007 model years) sold in the US are being built here at the original Freightliner plant and at new plant you referenced. Prior to that, some underwent final assembly here as "Freightliners" but most were assembled in Düsseldorf, which is the point of origin of ours which, I think, is a 2005 model. Does that carry the horses or other toys? Isn't it amazing what a can of spray paint makes when applied to the fenders of an otherwise pretty basic Haulmark trailer? We occasionally use the trailer to carry extra "stuff" that won't fit in the Sprinter. It *is* setup to carry a Harley as well. Eisboch |

I suspect they would have to be on the new Sprinters. The six replaced the five cylinder that we have. I also suspect the change was due to increased emission regulations. From what I've read, the six has the same power output that the 5 had, so it wasn't and issue of getting more horsepower. I believe you can also get it in a gas version now as well, although I don't know why anybody would want to. Eisboch Either do I. That Mercedes diesel is the big attraction, as far as I'm concerned. I was surprised that the hp was the same, although the torque is about 35 ft-lbs higher. I was just looking at Roadrek's SS Agile. Very cute at only $85,000.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - But back to the origional problem. And let me further qualify it by submitting that there are probably no cars or trucks, that are main stream and generally available and affordable by the general public (not considered collector or luxury cars/trucks). Can he buy on that is not filld with chineese parts if not assembled there and labeled Siapan like my old CJ7... Which was apparently assembled in Siapan... ![]() |

The 5-cyl is the same engine that powers my '83 300TD Benz station wagon (estate for our friends in The Midlands). Mine has 389,000 miles on it without an overhaul. Starts right up on my homebrew diesel oil (1 quart mineral spirits + 20 gallons of used french fry oil from a Chinese restaurant).....about 20 cents a gallon. Larry That's pretty cool and encouraging. We only have about 4-5 k miles on it so far. I don't know how that little engine does what it does, but it is truly remarkable. I have no need for any more power than what it delivers. Eisboch |

There's really only one IMPORTANT chore.....CHANGE THE OIL every 3000 miles and use ONLY the oil the truckers use....Velo from Chevron or Rotella T from Shell. Mine's never had anything but Rotella T in it since the banker who was its first owner got it new....a testament to Rotella's good quality. It STILL uses no oil in 3000 miles and doesn't smoke unless you floor it. Don't let anyone feed you bull**** about synthetic oils and extending the changes out a gazillion miles...It has nothing to do with the oil....it has to do with CARBON CONTAMINATION and UNBURNED FUEL diluting the oil...neither of which $12/quart oil can cure. It's a DIESEL! Always change the oil filter when you change the oil...no matter what anyone says. Makes SURE they DRAIN THE OIL COOLER, too! The lazy *******s will leave old oil in the oil cooler if you don't watch 'em. Larry -- You can tell there's extremely intelligent life in the universe because they have never called Earth. |
