The local watercop was there, ready to go out for a morning boatride in the fog. So I parked and waited. Engine started on the second turn of the key. Seemed a bit noisier idling out of the marina than a same-sized Yamaha. So, I'm convinced: when I see an eTec on the transom, I will no longer assume it is just the latest variation of an Igloo cooler. Was the bay foggy this AM? It's foggy here now. What's the charge for launching at Breezy these days? Foggy? Foggy? I had to put my old curb feelers on the front of my car just to find the road! We often have a lot of early morning fog this time of year and in the early spring. Couple of guys heading out to fish in a ChrisCraft cruiser said they would be dropping popcorn in the water so they could find their way back. If you were at the gas dock there, which is where I was for a few minutes, you could not see the bank on the other side of the creek. It's $10 for a non-storage launch. If you are a seasonal or monthly storage customer, there's no extra charge. Seasonal storage is $500, but Mike sez it is going to $600 next year. That's not bad. Hell, that's 60 launches! I'm probably going to keep the boat in the driveway. The wife enjoys playing on the Potomac, with an occasional foray to the bay. I prefer fishing in the bay, which I'll do during the week. Ten dollars isn't bad considering the nice ramps and fish cleaning station. Plus, it's close to one of my favorite trolling areas, and a hell of a lot closer to the plant. (Closer than Deale, I mean.) You launch just north of National, off the parkway? There are several places. Just south of the bridge, north of the airport, Ft. Belvoir, or Pohick Bay. The last is my favorite, but if I'm going to show folks the capitol by water, the one north of the airport is the best. |

The last is my favorite, but if I'm going to show folks the capitol by water, the one north of the airport is the best. The ramp just south of the bridges seems to lead to very shallow water, with lots of stumps, no? I've never launched there, but I did look it over once. There's a ramp on this side of the Potomac, down by the 301 bridge, but it is very narrow, and a hell of a long way from the DC area sights. That's Belle Haven Marina just south of the Wilson Bridge. During low tide, it is very shallow. The marina has a 'channel' marked, which keeps on away from rocks and stumps. It would be my last choice for launching, but there is a marina there, with slips for (IIRC) about 40 boats and trailer storage for about 40 more. |

That doesn't work, fish and seagulls eat the popcorn. Beer cans are better. Empty or full? Just the thought of a FISHERMAN leaving a FULL beer can out of reach is just terrifying!....(c; Larry -- Please - Turn OFF cruise control when you turn on windshield wipers! |
