May be true for Merc, but the Optimax is not going anywhere for a long time for a variety of reasons. Evinrude only builds two strokes. And despite your experience, I'm seeing more and more ETECs around here. That's right...the smaller four cycle evinrudes are called johnsons. I drove that Ranger and got a good ride around Fishers Island Sound, the race, etc. It is so frekin' smooth in the chop or in acceleration. The other un-noticable thing is the noise, it is very quiet, you can talk while cruising at 4500, no problem. You all know I don't have a lot of experience with larger engines but when you throttle up the Ranger, you feel like you got a set of 50's and positraction, Never felt power delivered so smoothly. 20 foot Ranger, 200 E-TEC/90 degree head, 4 blade SS prop. |
