I drove that Ranger and got a good ride around Fishers Island Sound, the race, etc. It is so frekin' smooth in the chop or in acceleration. The other un-noticable thing is the noise, it is very quiet, you can talk while cruising at 4500, no problem. You all know I don't have a lot of experience with larger engines but when you throttle up the Ranger, you feel like you got a set of 50's and positraction, Never felt power delivered so smoothly. 20 foot Ranger, 200 E-TEC/90 degree head, 4 blade SS prop. |

Was I dreaming... or did I read somewhere that Evinrude will bump Johnson out of the small 'kicker' engine market with small versions of ETEC outboards? |

Are they as environmentally friendly as the 4 strokes manufactured by the other marine outboard engine big boys? Uh, you might want to search on some large-scale "boating" discussion boards. Karen? Is that you? Naw, but there seem to be any number of "isolated" problems with some of the etecs, some of which involve powerhead replacements. Dunno why. Oh - you mean the ones that Karen posted? Those have been around for a while and it's always a friend of a friend or indirect "evidence". I'm not concerned about etecs. I gave up on evinrudes in the late 1960s, when my father dropped the line! My current problem is that, d'oh, when I sold off Yo Ho I, I also sold off my C-MAP user chips and forgot to back them up. I had several hundred fishing waypoints on them, and now...well, one guess. The guy who bought Yo-ho dislikes you? |

There has been talk of that for a while, but the technology doesn't translate well to engines smaller than 40 for some technical reason that I don't remember - has to do with RPM levels and cubic capacity. Not to mention price point. Which is not to say that they won't solve it eventually, there is just a technical problem at this point. |

Is that you? Tom, So you too have noticed that HK's position concerning E-Tec and hi-tech 2 strokes, is directly related to the engine he owns. I can remember when he thought 4 strokes were a piece of **** that added extra weight to the rear of the boat, and really didn't have any other advantage over the hi-tech 2 strokes. He must have made over 2000 posts directed towards Karen discussing this in detail. I think it was basically "Karen you don't know ****, you are an asshole, and why do you come here quoting from other boating discussion boards when people who own them in rec.boats all love them. . I think he is just pimping for whatever product he owns. |

Harry, You must have been punching in fishing waypoints at over 2 an hour to have several hundred fishing way points in YoHo. If you were doing this, you really never came back to any of the "old waypoints" anyway, so whats the big deal. You really need to sit back and enjoy the boat and spend some time fishing and using the boat, instead of worring about punching in waypoints. |

I wonder what Evinrude/Johnson's market penetration is since the OMC demise. |

Wow...a PR item from the distributor of these etec outboards. So? It's merely pointing out that ETEC is superior technology to other outboard technology. Those of us in the direct injection two stroke world are clearly superior types, but we like to keep a low profile. to borrow a phrase, smerk... Bragging once in a while is good. :)- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - |
