Yeah, and I wonder if the price swings are based on physical reality (yet),
or just speculation. You know: Hamad Karzai stubs his toe, oil goes up a
dollar a barrel, and stays there, even though Mr. Karzai's toe is fine.

No doubt - the best approach to energy independence is to force efficiency.
Of course it would be hard to get that monster SUV up to 30 MPG, so in that
case a very hefty gas guzzler/surtax should kick in. It should be annual
and high enough that most people will not want to pay it.

If you can afford to drive it, you should have the right to drive it - but
you should have to pay for the privilege!

Same should apply to boats.

That is just something propagated by an oppressive government.

If you are saying you don't have a right to a driver's license because
it is not mentioned in the constitution then minorities have no rights
to eat in a resturant either

Poor analogy.

Yah OK. Driving tests pass too many lousy drivers, but they do stop SOME.

We have the right to travel freely throughout this country. We have the
right to own a car. We do NOT have the right to a driver's license,
therefore we have no guaranteed right to drive a car. If you disagree, cut &
paste the section of the Constitution which deals with this right you
imagine.
