Yeah, and I wonder if the price swings are based on physical reality (yet),
or just speculation. You know: Hamad Karzai stubs his toe, oil goes up a
dollar a barrel, and stays there, even though Mr. Karzai's toe is fine.

No doubt - the best approach to energy independence is to force efficiency.
Of course it would be hard to get that monster SUV up to 30 MPG, so in that
case a very hefty gas guzzler/surtax should kick in. It should be annual
and high enough that most people will not want to pay it.

If you can afford to drive it, you should have the right to drive it - but
you should have to pay for the privilege!

Same should apply to boats.

Why, are SUVs illegal? Should we prevent people from owning houses that
you believe are too big for them?

Same should apply to boats.

Why do you want to prevent Joe-six-pack the joy of boat ownership?

We have the right to travel freely throughout this country. We have the
right to own a car. We do NOT have the right to a driver's license,
therefore we have no guaranteed right to drive a car. If you disagree, cut &
paste the section of the Constitution which deals with this right you
imagine.

Yeah, that's it! Tax the middleclass out of lifestyle so fatcats can
endulge themselves in it. Then turn around and tell the middle class
how you feel their pain, and if they can just tax you a little more,
things will get better (for them). What's next, you want to buy my
legs because I can't afford to go anywhere to use them anyway?? This
is a sick concept/scam on the level of carbon credits which
essentially work the same way.
