Without going into great detail of why I was there, with the exception
of watching my daughter play vollyball on the USA team, I probably wouldn't ahve gone, but got to see some massively huge water craft there. Outside our motell room there was the omni present scenery of an aircraft carrier and some cargo ships and tankers. What I really wanted to do was while I was there was to take a sea fishing cruise and see if I could land a sailfish or some other sal****er beast. Around where I live if you catch a 14 lb catfish it's a monster. of course the people on the 48 ft. Hatteras boats use bigger stuff than that for bait. I was even willing to pay out the $550.00 for a 4 hr fishing tour, but the timing wouldn't have permitted it. My daughters games were twice a day with 4 hr intervals, plus the games were "3 out of 5" and usually took up a couple hrs per game. I liked watching the games but concerning a good fishing schedule, it was my bad luck for the days spent there. But one of my parts suppliers is in Miami and my favorite sales guy, Chris is in the area, I had never met him but have talked with him weekly for the past 10 years. I was able to get in touch with him and meet up with he and his family, so my wife and I went out to supper with them. I got great lobster. but the cracking tool the place provided really sucked, so I believe if I ever eat lobster like that again, I'll bring my own pair of Channel-Locks. Anyhow, besides the great time with good company, I'm planning on going back there this winter, and probably to the Keys with Chis, his dad, and a couple other guys an myself and hopefully we will hit the blue water and see if we can land something big! |

Glad to hear all went well! How did your daughter's team do? Your lobster experience is another reason to carry a Leatherman everywhere you go (except on the plane)! -- John H |

She played on the USA Volleyball National Indoor High Performance league and out of something like 43 teams, hers finished in 5th place. That was competing against teams from NZ, a couple teams from Canada, as well as puerto Rico, the Domminican Republic, and Venezuala. She has ben invited to return next year and to compete again on the Int'l level. I'm pretty proud of her and seeing she will be 17 next month. What was actually the best time of the trip was seeing her last game was over about 2:00 pm, she wanted to go to the beach witch was only about a block away from our motel. she was picking up sea shells like she was 12 and having a blast, but I noticed she kept looking over her shoulder... Beach Vollyball! 2 to 4 person teams. I knew what she was thinking, and told her that if she just asked, she could probably get in a game. she was shy about it,but went anyhow, and the next thing I knew she was playing with the best of them. Having a blast, while I was drowning myself in salty waves trying to find shells. After a couple hrs, and more shells than I could carry, It was getting dark, so I walked over to her and said it was time to head in. She was disapointed to quit, because she was having too much fun playing volleyball, without having the pressures of competition. Anyhow. So much for volleyball shells and salt drownings. The idea of a leatherman is good John, you would have to stow it in the luggage, and probably still have your baggage searched. But yes, it would do wonders on shell fish! |

Dan- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Yes Dan, it was actually great weather. There were some pop up showers that didn't last but moments and loads of lightning on occasion, but mostly good with mild breezes. Kind of reminded me of Kauai'i this time of year. Let me know the next time you're down this way. Will do, Dan. Thanks! |
