Their 5 makes more noise than a 15, and corrodes faster than a 50.

What a value. :-)

Don't use it in salt water so where's the corrosion issue? Can you
point to a white paper on this?

Value? $750 compared to $1500 for alittle more noise is an excellent
value
for the fisherman who likes to save alittle and still
have a 5 hp 4-stroke...B&S doesn't seem to have problems selling'em
and selling them
to experienced fisherman who can easily afford to pay double for some
other
makes..maybe the extra $800 goes into the 480x480 fishfinder/gps?

My neighbor at the lake has one. Too noisy and unrefined sounding for
my taste. There are several small outboards in our cove, and the B&S
is the only one that I notice and find annoying.

I know people who love their air-cooled Seagulls putt-putting around
the lake trailing a whiff of blue smoke and I think
the same mentality is happning with the B&S..it's an anti-elite
statement.

You may be right but I was not offended by it's sound. I tried to find
another OB manufactoer who would also disclose their
WOT DB levels but they don't. I did find numbers on larger engines and
they are louder then 92 db but I'd like to find
10 hp and under numbers...this has turned into a quest. :=)
