Here's what's new: http://www.forteinc.com/release/notes.php?id=42 and if it sounds like you want to upgrade: http://www.forteinc.com/agent/download.php -- I gave it a go and really like OE better. What are the advantages of using Agent 4.2 over OE as a NG reader? I could not find any. |

What are the advantages of using Agent 4.2 over OE as a NG reader? I could not find any. It's been so long since I've used another news reader, I'm not up on what they can & can't do. I originally switched to Agent because it's so much more stable than OE or Netscape. Then I got hooked on its versatility (some people call that "complicated", but it can be set up as complicated or as automated or as simple as you want) and the idea that it's inherently not prone to virus attack. Also like the way it doesn't need the registry and can be copied willy nilly here and there without "Installing" anything. Being a "text only" reader, it's fast as hell (especially important to anyone on dial up). Plus, the filtering features are the best of any news reader I know. Can other readers filter out messages cross posted to "X" number of other groups? Or "Ignore Subthreads"? (like I say, I don't know what others can do). Anyhow, that's just off the top of my head. Given some thought, I can probably come up with quite a long list of advantages. Anyhow, I like it..... a lot. Rick |
