Not enough low end torque, or some other issue? From talking to people that have 'em (the tamer, non-supercharged 425HP, 2-4V versions) they are rough at low RPM, don't like to idle, and foul plugs on a regular basis unless wound up to high RPM. I met a guy with a kit Cobra (replica) at a car meet that had installed a 427 in it. He was complaining that he had to pull and clean the plugs just about every time he took it out. A few years ago I almost bought a '64 "R" code Galaxie 500. I passed on it when I discovered that although in mint shape it would be a garage queen. I enjoy cars that you can drive. Eisboch |

That is if his is set to origional specs. HEI did wonders for plug fouling and performance. The coils put out about 14,000v. and HEI, even the earliest ones put out about 40,000v. makes a big difference in firing plugs and plug life. Now some cars are pumping up to 90-105,000v. Many a mechanic has been "hit" by extremely high voltage ignition. fortunately, most survive. |
