I would think the workers were a bit more comfortable than the passengers as their quarters are normally at the lowest levels of the ship. Regardless, how can anyone on that ship find a safe and comfortable area to ride out that storm? Sick bay had to be packed. There is no way I would be down in my quarters. I would be up near the exit, with PFD in hand. Good point. But I wonder if you could even stay put in one place being so high up on deck. My guess is that you would be thrown about pretty bad. Sure could have used seat belts on the deck chairs. I wonder if there was water in the swimming pools when it stopped? Yes, but 'twas quite salty! (Get it??) -- John |

We were in a cruise where we hit some snotty seas, not in this catagory, and the pools lost about 1/2 the water. |

I looked for more info after I saw the video clip but didn't find anything. Having been in that type of miserable sea the video clip led me to believe passengers and crew had a terrible time of it. But apparently limey cruise passengers have more pluck, medicine and distractions than regular sailors, so it wasn't quite as bad as it looked. It's my view that when enduring such conditions cabaret dancers falling in your lap would certainly be helpful, and more beneficial than the Cinzano. --Vic http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4264661.stm (sublink of your link) I was laying in my bed sleeping off the excesses of the night before watching the cabaret dancers and downing pints of Cinzano when the whole ship lurched to the left sharply. I dashed into the corridor and found fire-extinguishers dislodged from their mountings rolling alarmingly down the corridors. The Captain came over the intercom and quickly reassured everyone, but it was many hours before we were on our way again. The cabaret dancers entertained both customers and crew throughout the day though and Cinzano supplies were not effected!! Mark Dowle, Abingdon, UK |
