Imagine the response and uproar had the guy (that tossed and killed the victim)
would have been on a jetski? Oh they would have made the national news and
there would be renewed calls for banning them.

Kinda like if that black girl with the white guy in her windshield...had it
been the other way around.....look out here comes jesse and al.

HENNEPIN COUNTY: Authorities continue 'boat rage' inquiry

A spokesperson for Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar said there
were no charges filed Monday in the case of suspected "boat rage" on
Lake Minnetonka on Friday night.

Anthony Lee Zemke, 37, one of two men arrested following the deadly
incident, was released pending further investigation.

Zemke, of Minnetonka, was held in the Hennepin County jail after Mound
resident Ryan Nustad, 31, was thrown in the water in Cruisers' Cove
near Big Island and then run over by Zemke's boat, killing him on
impact. Sheriff's spokeswoman Roseann Campagnoli said it was unclear
whether Nustad was hit deliberately.

As if that wasn't enough, rescuers met with resistance from other
boaters as they attempted to find the man in the water late Friday.

Sadly, this probably doesn't surprise any experienced boaters at all.

It's not the size of the boat, it's how drunk and belligerant and arrogant
the numbskulled skipper who drives it is.

I spent an hour on Friday on the Willamette in Portland helping a lady with
a 33" cruiser holding it away from being ground up against the dock while
her husband looked for a place to park. We were tied off on the inside,
they were on the outside and the big cruisers came by so fast and so close
that they'd toss a 2' wake up against the side of her, over the dock, etc.
One time it took three people to keep her boat from being smashed against
the dock because of some inconsiderate asshole who probably expects people
to maintain 5mph past his own slip.

Scary, isn't it?
I sometimes find the PWC's annoying and inconsiderate as hell, but I
don't think I've ever been "endangered" by one. There have been more
than a few times when I've had the crap scared out of me by another
boater.

My good friend Jim who works Mississippi river barges, calls PWC's
'gnats'. He tells stories of gnats riding the towboat's wake, riding
dangerously close to the side of barges -- AND crossing in front of
the tow!!! These gnats are endangering themselves!!!

Must be those darn beer commercials about "Living life to the fullest

Well, it's unlikely that the PWCs will do any damage to the barges even if
they were to hit one, so it's probably not that big of a deal... Let them
have their fun over there away from the rest of us... If they screw up,
they'll be just like a gnat -- they'll be swatted...

When I bought my boat, from an established and reputable dealer on the
Willamette River, they had a big Bayliner cruiser up on blocks with a huge
hole in the side of it like a ship that's been hit by a cruise missile.

Turns out it had been sold brand new, and when you buy boats from the dealer
you get a free lesson. While the new owner was out learning to drive his
boat a waverunner slammed into the side of it. The PWC driver was not
seriously hurt because he let go before the impact, and the Bayliner didn't
sink...it returned to the ramp however with a waverunner firmly jammed
through the side of the hull.

Betcha the PWCer wasn't insured.

Yeah, but it's one thing to punch a hole in a fiberglass boat, it's just
another to do the same thing in a heavy steel plated barge...

True...in which case you'd be operating a torpedo. There's a shipyard on the
Willamette where they make double-hulled grain and hatchery barges. It's
cool to see the cross-sections being built. There's not a fiberglass boat
made that's going to punch through one of those.
