Once again, the more I see the more I need....
This Marquis, has the dinky little "bullet" type navigation lights on the sides, right next right next to the back of the glass side shields , and they don't work. Switch is good and power source is good too. I havent gone in to test the power and ground wires...yet. But thats besides the point. I don't like the idea of the little lights on the side, due to visability, and seeing they are about midships, that doesn't have much of anything th show other boaters you have anything on the bow, or at least, hat's my opinion. I still have the old bow/navigation light from my now defunct ChrisCraft Cavalier, and figure that seeing I'm working on the inside of the cuddy interior, I may as well mount it and do away with the side lights. My opinion, is that just because it's legal and stylish(?) doesn't mean it's the safest way to go, and it would be a lot easier to wire in because it would simply demand wires from the bow light to the switch. instead of wiring both sides. Now, I notice that this doesn't have a stern "Pole" light like what you would find popular on many boats, but rather a light mounted right above the outdrive close to the top of the hull. I figured this was to light the swim deck, but maybe that is the Nav. light? I thought they had to be mounted higher? Even though I don't like the pole light, because it shines behind you and is an annoyance, Would I be OK to leave the aft light as it is, or would you recommend a pole light? Again, I'm looking at the safety factor... Always, thanks again! |

![]() Looking at this post from a "big boat" point of view I end up with too many questions to ask before I can give any answers. Will be interested to see how some answer. You want a stern light that just shines behind you in a 135 degree arc and a mast head light that shines forward and to the sides in a 225 degree arc. This keeps the light out of the cockpit. The red/green combo bow light is also for small boats. The separate port/starbord lights are more appropriate for larger boats. You should not be able to see any light from the helm. If you take the free Boat/US course you will find out more about your lights http://www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/ You may also be able to get a buck or two knocked off your insurance bill with the certificate. This is another good light page. Take the quiz there too to see what other boats are lighted like http://www.boatsafe.com/flash/reviewlights.html |
