The Voting Process in Maryland
Harry Krause wrote: Your own state is having horrendous electronic voting machine problems today. I had a first today. we voted on paper ballot,a nd it was recorded electronicly. No chads, clear instructions, and easy to do. then the ballot is put in a machine, and votes electronically counted, and the ballot remains. in case of a manual recount. pretty neat idea. |

Decided that if I post in this group I'll end up in political discussions. So my opinions must be totally unbiased, and not tainted by a voting record. Besides, I didn't like any of the candidates. --Vic watsamatta with Daffy Duck? I was afraid that write-in would confuse the poll-watchers. Both sides. --Vic |

I asked the polling "referee" why I should trust these machines to produce an honest count, and she said, "Well, I feel secure about them." To which I responded, "What are your credentials? Who are you? Why should I trust you?" She really had no answers that were satisfactory. Why would you become confrontational with someone who has no decision making authority? She is a very nice volunteer, who was laughing at you as soon as you walked away. Even if she agrees with your assessment, she was laughing at your behavior. No, she wasn't, because at least five other people around me were asking her the same questions. Go complain to the Elections Commissioner in your county. Perhaps you take the voting process lightly. I don't. You were ****ing on the working stiff again. |

She was laughing at your inability to make speak your displeasure about the voting machines in an effective manner. You asking a poll volunteer "What are your credentials? Who are you? Why should I trust you?" makes as much sense as screaming at the moon, both of them are just as effective in changing the voting process. Perhaps if you did take the voting process seriously, and really wanted to make a change, you would realize how completely ineffective your confrontational behavior is and so something that would make a difference. My guess is you enjoy the confrontation, and really don't care if they change the machines. You assume the woman was a "volunteer." She was not. She introduced herself as a "supervisor" from the state board of elections, and was wearing a state ID nameplate. We had some serious problems during the primaries some weeks ago, and the board of elections caught hell. Perhaps you ought to have a few facts on hand before you drool in here, hey?
