Clams,

I assume they're the same as they are with the skates I used to see
while diving in New England. When they wanted to 'hide' while on
bottom, they would apparently blow water downward to stir up the sand
under them and the pressure would blow the sand up out of the two holes
like volcanoes, and drop the sand back all over them. Pretty cool to see.
