Never had a problem with Stren. What do you swear by? I line my spinning and casting reels with enough mono to cover the spool, then I wind on a spool of Berkley Fireline. I've gotten away from using mono as working line. I tie on a leader of fluorocarbon. Same hear. But I use Calcutta braid. I really like the Calcutta over the PowerPro. It's cheaper, and I haven't had the failures I've seen in PowerPro. For my trolling rod (dolphin, billfish, tuna, wahoo, etc), I use hi-vis Momoi Diamond 30 lb. test on a Tiagra 30 2-speed. The stretch in the line helps absorb some of the shock of a hard-hitting fish. I've had hooks break, straighten, and/or pull when using braid while trolling. But when I'm bottom fishing, I like the zero-stretch braids. |
