Nice runabout but too much upholstery and not enough open cockpit area for fishing. And as my wife is now turned onto fishing (she caught at least 40 of the 73 perch yesterday) I have a plan...............to move to a 23 foot walk around with a small cuddy. A friend of mine has a 22' Grady White SeaFarer..........I really like that boat. I have also seen a 23' Pro-line WA that I like. Anchoring and moving about on the boat will also be easier, especially for her. I now have all winter to start selling her on the idea! What are some dependable brands in the walk around market? I'll tell you one that I have been extremely impressed with since they first started making them - Polar. http://tinyurl.com/f3qxr Their whole fleet of boats is extremely well made and cleverly appointed. When I first ran into these, I was in the market for my Fisharound and almost pulled the trigger on a 23' Polar instead - at the time they weren't making the 27'. I had the opportunity to test drive one up in Gloucester, MA at a dealer who had one the color I wanted (white with blue accents) and he let me take it on a trailer around town to see how it towed - I was impressed. The only reason I didn't buy it was because it came pre-rigged with Merc Sal****er 115's and I didn't want them. To purchase the boat sans motors was a problem and while we were working out the details, the Contender came up and that was that. You might also want to take a look at their 21 center console. It's amazing how much room the step down head has on that boat. Grady's are Grady's - well made, good sound boats with lots to recommend them. Priced like it too. Prolines - eh, I'm not all that impressed with them. I think they are built with a very light laminate and while that can be positive in some ways, I don't feel they are as stable as other brands - meaning that they tend to move around a lot in all kinds of seas. I also don't think their layout is efficient and their interiors are cramped - put more than one person in the boat and you have a problem even with the larger boats. As to Chuck and his Cats - I wouldn't buy one on a bet. There is a guy at my marina who has a 23' World and in a beam sea off Newport, fuggetaboutit. Head and following seas, can't beat 'em. Just my opinion you understand. Yep. The 2300 walk around looks like an option to consider. Thanks! |
