After 2 years of looking and not buying, I am looking at finally purchasing
my first boat. I am looking at a 2007 Yamaha SX210 jetboat with a MSRP of $28,
399 in California. Never having made a purchase like this before I am not
sure where to start with the haggling. After all the "S" does mean suggested!
Of course on top of this is frieght, taxes, prep etc. I'm not looking to get
it for free but I also don't want to be taken advantage of because I have
never made this purchase before.

Great choice in boats. I'm sure you'll love it. I have an '06 230SX HO, and
couldn't be happier. The problem with the Yamahas, is that there just aren't
that many of them to be had, so it's a supply and demand type thing. I
managed to get the MSRP on my boat "out the door." That was probably a
couple of grand in savings. I tried for more, but they wouldn't budge, and
it was the only HO they had in stock. I suggest trying for the same deal,
and see how it goes. Where in CA are you?

I am in San Ramon, which is in the SF Bay Area. I see what you mean about
supply and demand. I can't find a SX210 in CA right now. And, of the very few
Dealers that are within a couple of hours from me, most of them are more
interested in selling motorcycles or ATVs and have no boat inventory left. So
far the only dealer that is interested in taking me on a "test drive" is 112
miles away. He was willing to sell me a 2006 SX230 for the price of a SX210
and was shocked when I said no thank you. So now I wait until the 2007's are
in (just a couple of weeks). I have seen on www.yamahajetboaters.com that
there is a growing list of "little things", from speedo lines popping off to
trailer issues and loose nuts and bolts, to watch for on the Yamahas. Have
you had any issues?

I'm a member at that site.... look for greenie95125, that's me. That's about
the best place around to learn about Yamaha Jets.

As far as issues, I've been lucky I guess, and I have about 50hrs on the
boat. The biggest issue I've had so far is the bow stop on the trailer. It's
secured with a long stainless bolt, and no matter how hard you tighten it,
the whole post still moves. I wound up welding it, and now she don't move
anymore. Other than that, it's all been good. I absolutely love this boat.
You probably know about the Cobra Steering fins from the site. I would
actually order them before you take delivery on the boat. You don't even
want to know what the slow speed steering is like with a jet. Just get the
fins and install them before your first outing, and you'll have more
fun...especially when retrieving the boat. It steers like an I/O with them
installed.

The biggest single drawback I can see of the Yammies, is that they are sold
and serviced by (as you know) motercycle/atv dealers. The service guys are
motercycle mechanics that may have gone thru a crash course on boats with
Yamaha. If you are handy with tools, do as I did...get a service manual, and
do the services yourself.

The deal on the 230 sounds tempting. I probably would have gone for it.
