How critical is it to have this filter running (OMC 115HP Jet boat)? Mine
broke and leaked therefore just bypassed it and all seems to work fine. Vince |

Vince If you don't mind having water in your cylinder and oil pan it really is not big deal. ![]() Actually, as long as you never have any water in your fuel system you really don't need the fuel separator..... but, if you do have condensation in your tank, or you buy from a marina that had some water in their gas then not having the filter could be an expensive lesson. I have always purchased inexpensive insurance versus gambling on never having an accident. -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it! |

Boats have a lot more fuel quality issues than most other gas powered
things. They spend a lot of time in and around water which tends to increase the amount of water that gets into their fuel systems from condensation. They also sometimes get fuel from less than perfect sources like marinas and 5 gallon cans. I dump my water filter into a glass cup a couple times a year and I usually get a inch or so of water and some crud. I let it sit so the water and crud settle to the bottom. I then slowly pour the gas off the top back into the filter and put it back on. There is so much filter surface in these that they are good for years if you dump them occasionally.
