Default SEA RAY LAGUNA ADVICE

You apparently misunderstood me. Was the prior life of the boat in
sal****er or freshwater? Sal****er is corrosive and damaging to the engine
and I/O.

Does the owner have receipts or logs showing the maintenance done on this
boat? If not, I would walk away from it as you could be looking at some
major repairs on both the engine and outdrive.

Ok.sorry.thanks for the reply.....The prior owner was an older woman.
She kept it in the water at a marina. (salt water NY) The marina has a
very good reputation. They can furnish me with all the maintenence
reciepts over the years. This 1994 looks better than a lot of newer
boats I have seen. There's got to be a certain price point where this
boat becomes a good deal. I will have to purchase a trailer if I decide
to buy.

Maybe, but it should be a low number, low enough that you can afford
to walk away if major (and expensive) problems develop after you buy
it. There is a high probability that a boat and motor of that age
will have some things that need work.

If you're talking about a 23' Laguna, that's a VERY VERY well made,
well designed boat. I'd take it in a heartbeat, even with a fixer-upper
motor.

Well I put the offer in for $14k, that would include the cost of a new
trailer which the marina said would be $2500-3000. Lets see if they can
make it work. I think the owner wants to hold out for the full 12k and
the marina doesn't seem to want to help me out on the trailer cost. I
called around for a trailer and I couldn't do much better than $2500.
I am willing to walk away if they can't make this offer work.

I saw a nice 2001 22' sportcraft w/200 hp merc optimax. My wife didn't
seem to like it. I could probably get this for $15K. Not sure if I
could change her mind. I don't know much about sportcraft boats.

The owner was asking $12,000 so you put in an offer of $14,000 on a 12 year
old boat? This is at a time (mid summer) when it is a buyers market.

Hmmm.

You also mix in a new trailer purchase from a marina with that offer, an
offer $2,000 above their asking price on a 12 year old boat.

Make perfect sense............eh?

To salvage this deal...........did you at least make the offer contingent
upon structural and mechanical surveys of the boat and a compression test of
the engine?
