What was causing the rough running? Or, did they say?


The overheating itself caused it, at least according to them.

I have the exact same engine, same year, and two years ago, the exact
same thing happened to me. The engine overheated while idling, and I
didn't notice the temp gauge (maybe I need an alarm)until it started to
run real rough, dieseling, the works. It was well over 200 at the time.
It was also a bad impeller. I replaced it. The guy who sold me the
impeller told me to check the thermostat housing to make sure I got all
the old pieces out. Sure enough there were several pieces up there.
Anyway, two years later, not one problem. I think you can rest easy.
Remember, in cars, those engines run with presurized cooling systems
north of 212 all the time. They can take it. By the way, get the 160
thermostat. Running too cool can cause carbon build up, plug fouling etc.
and also result in poor mileage.
