I've posted this before. That's for starters. Second, you're a facilitator of bad behavior here. Several have pointed that out. Your constant response of "Who, me?" is recognized for the bull**** it is. Third, you're not clever enough with words to play Zoltan Karpathy, John, so your oiling and oozing your way around here only makes you look...silly. I score that reply a clear knock out. |

Harry, For years you made hundreds of posts stating Chuck was a class act and one of the most important contributor to rec.boats. You viewed as on of your best friends in rec.boats, and you always wanted to meet him in real life. Just because you disagree on an issue does not change who or what he is. Chuck is the same person today as he has been since he first started posting in rec.boats. He is a very well read, very articulate, informed boater who probably spends more time using his boat than most of the regulars in rec.boats combined. He can be very opinionated on certain subjects, but so are 90% of the regulars. For the past 6 months, he has gone out of his way to stay away from inflammatory posts because he observed rec.boats had become a flame fest with very few on topic posts. Since then he had tried to encourage on topic posts and encourage others to stay away form inflamatory topics, while we are far from perfect, rec.boats is a better boating forum today, than it was 8 months ago. As a boater, you really should thank him for contributing to a better NG to discuss and read boating topics. -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it! |

![]() I score that reply a clear knock out. I have been reading Usenet for many years. The one thing that is a constant in Usenet is no one ever wins an Newsgroup argument. There has never been a clear knock out in Usenet history, these knock out attempts only result an escalation of the argument, with a certainty that no one will ever be "knocked out". -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it! |

![]() Looks like I hit a raw nerve, eh Harry? Nobody is "telling anybody what to do." NOYB expressed his opinion about liberals. I expressed mine about trolls. It could very well be that posting an anti-liberal screed in a boating newsgroup is *not* a troll, so I'd be delighted to learn just exactly what some BS "talking point" from the Limbaugh or Hannity show contributes to the subject of recreational boating. It could very well be that I am wrong, and NOYB was clearly on topic with his bigoted, hateful silliness. Enlighten me. NOYB's regurgitation of the tired out: "Canada is overwhelmed with illegal immigrants as US liberals flee from election defeat and the Bush Administration" is on topic here exactly how? Meanwhile, I'll begin a diligent search for NOYB's last on-topic post. Must have been at least one or two in the last few months.... You excuse a lot of the crap you toss out here as "just something I want to use to tweak NOYB". He excuses a lot of the crap he posts as something he's trying to use to tweak you. Why don't you two take it to email? Call me a netcop all you like. I'd rather be guilty of suggesting that people would be better to stay on topic than guilty of deliberately trying to drive the group into some off-topic **** hole. |

![]() Jim wrote: Those infomercials are kind of dull without pictures, doncha think? Jim For $35 a year, you can read all the same "infomercials" (actually more- an average of 3-4 boat articles per month) with pictures. :-) Or send me an email, and I can send you photos for a specific item at no charge. |

![]() NOYB wrote: Horsepoop. Chuck was the first person to respond to this OT post. By suggesting you shove the political BS back up the orifice from which it emerged. You apparently admit that your post was a blatant troll, simply to see who might respond? You obviously now admit it was OT. Do you need a referral to a political website? Is that it? There are hundreds where your nonsense would be appropriate. Try this one: http://www.jbs.org/ People go there to yak yak about liberals, etc. Most people come here to talk boats, and the political BS just attracts an element that dumps extremist rheotric into a wide number of cross posted groups. I, for one, will look forward to your future boating related posts in a boating NG. If you want to post political crap here, be prepared for some fallout. If the fallout makes you uncomfortable enough that you need to lash out on the basis of personality, etc....good! |

![]() Harry Krause wrote: I doubt the "fallout" makes NOYB uncomfortable. It doesn't make me uncomfortable, either. It just makes you look unctuous. I absolutely believe that the dedicated trolls in this NG are *not* bothered by the fallout. (Maybe there's hope for the aspiring trolls, but it's hard to say) Some people could give a flying fig less about anything except their own need to lob crap into the NG and raise a middle finger in some sort of sick or twisted "triumph" when they do. Nothing stops or prevents a troll from screwing up the group except conscience (missing in many cases), self control (also in short supply in some cases), and maybe a little peer pressure. Consider me peer pressure. Don't lilke it? Great. You're not supposed to like it. If it doesn't bother you, (as you claim), then you will find no need to make snide and catty personal remarks- as you have done several times so far in this thread. I think the following few paragraphs have a lot to say to certain people he ********* The Internet Troll Personality Disorder is characterized by attention-seeking and disruptive behavior in anonymous, delocalized places of socializing. It is indicated by the following traits: 1. A tendency to make provocative comments to invoke emotional responses in others 2. A lack of connection to the community being trolled; i.e., will leave if desired response is not invoked ("Do not feed the trolls!") 3. A dissatisfaction with one's life and a cynical attitude towards things in general 4. A tendency to challenge the rules and authorities of a community 5. A preference to exhibit these behaviors only in places where one's true identity is unknown Disclaimer: It takes a qualified professional to diagnose anyone with a personality disorder. Source: http://www.behavenet.com/capsules/di...sification.htm ********** So if we examine those in some detail: The Internet Troll Personality Disorder is characterized by attention-seeking and disruptive behavior in anonymous, delocalized places of socializing. It is indicated by the following traits: 1. A tendency to make provocative comments to invoke emotional responses in others {You would certainly need to include posting political crap into a newsgroup that isn't intended to be political in nature and where participants have a reasonable expectation of different subject matter as "provocative", wouldn't you? Then of course there are the personal attacks from any side, "to invoke emotional responses in others."} 2. A lack of connection to the community being trolled; i.e., will leave if desired response is not invoked ("Do not feed the trolls!") {Wouldn't it seem obvious that those people who never (or seldom) post anything in rec.boats that isn't a political troll exhibit a "lack of connection to the community being trolled"?} 3. A dissatisfaction with one's life and a cynical attitude towards things in general {Yup, there you go. 90% of trolls are bitching about something. It's either the GD liberals, or the GD president, or the GD poster with a different political opinion, or the GD poster who dares to suggest it would be better to remain on topic in the NG.} 4. A tendency to challenge the rules and authorities of a community {While there are no authorities in rec.boats, there are some rules of common courtesy and a reasonable expectation that with the tens of thousands of sites available on the internet the guys who want to argue politics all the time can more easily find a "GD the liberals" or a "GD the president" site than boaters can find other boating sites. Comments like, "You're absolutely out of line to suggest that anybody posting OT topic here could be out of line, everybody should be able to post what they want- unless what they want to post is a reminder to stay on topic...." certainly challenges the unwritten "rules" of the community.} 5. A preference to exhibit these behaviors only in places where one's true identity is unknown {Exhibit A: NOYB. Who the heck is NOYB? Is Bert Robbins really Bert's name? Yes, you're actually Harry Krause. Not everybody exhibits all 5 characteristics.Check out the posts from other trolls, and you will notice that most of them do not use a complete or actual name.} Disclaimer: It takes a qualified professional to diagnose anyone with a personality disorder. Source: http://www.behavenet.com/capsules/di...sification.htm ******************* Damn shame if a guy's life is so narrow that no matter what he has to say the only place he can find to express himself is in a boating newsgroup. That's probably not true in your case, but sometimes I have my doubts about a few others......... I think we should stick to boats, and I will continue offering comments to those who abuse the NG to get their personal, political rocks off. If you don't like it- great, and if it really "didn't bother you" you wouldn't get all grammar school silly and insulting in response. |
