I'm stumped and was hoping to get some ideas. I have a 1998 Glastron
175 with a Volvo Penta Cobra SX 135 hp engine. I've blown the same hose three times. This is the hose that connects from the thermostat housing to the circulating pump. They've all split in the same location...the top half of the hose exiting the thermostat. If you look on the inside of the hose, you can see a water line about half way up the diameter of the hose. So obviously the system is not staying filled with water. I did a raw water test and I'm getting good flow coming in. I just had the head decked and resealed so I should not be getting a pressure leak from the cylinders. Something is putting a lot of pressure (and / or heat) on the hose. I would greatly appreciate ideas. |

Buy a different brand hose and report back.

I rutpured the original, then a used one from the marine off a merc
with the same block, then an oem. It's hard to imagine I've had 3 bad hoses. Bryan JR North wrote: Buy a different brand hose and report back. Should have mentioned that in the original post. Yeh, I overheated
last spring when the impeller broke up...bad enough that I had to replace the exhaust manifold. What a disappointment to blow another hose! Was thinking last night if my hose may be clogged from the thermestat to the exhaust elbow. Not sure, but I think this is the only other place to relieve pressure besides through the thermostat. I also repaced the thermostat last year. I've been focused on what's building pressure and not whats supposed to be relieving pressure. Good thoughts, I'll be taking a look. Hellatious pressure must be building up somewhere. Look for the point in your cooling system that regulates pressure. It either isn't or something really strange is taking place.... |

Just got word back from the mechanic. Appears that I have a small
crack in a cylinder. I guess that would have created pressure into the cooling system thus causing the hose to rupture. Working towards a new engine now. The joys of boating!
