RI often and regularly, literally thousands of times over the past 50+
years. Patronized restaurants, ordered New England Clam Chowder, can't ever
recall seeing RI style. Interesting.

I did find a reference to the Portuguese of Rhode Island and tomatoes,
with a little history of Manhattan Clam Chowder.

Hey....there's still a significant Portuguese community in Rhode Island. I
wonder if that's a clue.
