Do you think they were all cowards? Pretty much. Oh yeah.... re "Honoring cowardly acts is not the American way." Do I dare point out that your current president hid from service? |

Do you think they were all cowards? Maybe some didn't believe in an unjust war. Who was right once all the bulls*it & smoke cleared? Their running did nothing to stop the war, it just allowed others to get killed in their place. Protesters protested right here in the streets. What would you call the runners? -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

To refresh your memory, Canada is planning to celebrate the American draft dodgers who fled to, and were welcomed in Canada. What say you about that? |

Canada is doing diddley..... read again...it's a group of BC activists.. quote "B.C. activists plan to erect a bronze sculpture honouring draft dodgers, four decades after Americans opposed to the Vietnam War sought refuge in Canada." Canada is a true free country... if a bunch of flower granddads & moms want to erect a statue they can do so. Canada isn't doing it..especially as our new Prime Minister will be doing his best to be George W's new little buddy. |

To refresh your memory, Canada is planning to celebrate the American draft dodgers who fled to, and were welcomed in Canada. What say you about that? Cool. They played a part in changing American opinion and in the end making it easier for us to get the hell out of a country we shouldn't have been in in the first place. Harry, come on now. You are of that generation as am I. Vietnam may have been for all the wrong reasons, but the draft dodgers who fled to Canada had very little affect on the public's opinion of the war. The vocal protesters did, as did the few, true conscientious objectors (Muhammad Ali, for one), but the draft dodgers were faceless and voiceless people who were more despised than revered, even by those opposed to the war. You have to evaluate the threat at the time. And, the threat was real. Go read the major world news papers, outside the communist bloc, from the time period and you will find that the action taken at the time was correct. |

Bert, Bert, Bert...get off your high horse. You never served in a shooting war. Never said I was in any action. However, I was available to be a bullet catcher when the phone rang and I needed to be at the assembly point within hours. What branch of the military did you serve in, Harry? |
