Default motor ran for 1/2 second out of water

Again for clarity (little water in the gearcase joke?) if "you" change
the gearcase oil you "must" use their dealer only gearcase oil or your
warranty on the gearcase will be toast. Why don't they just change the
oil annually like everyone else?? because it's dealer only oil & in the
US they'd have to give it away & believe me considering the engine
pricing the dealers are cleaning up on every little E-Tec dollar they can.

Let us know how it goes?? I'm betting they'll rip you off big time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like you really have something against
these motors though. There seem to be many reports of people using
them for several years with no problems. Not trying to start an E-tec
vs. 'whatever' thread though.

Yes I do have things against these motors Charlie & the OMC dealers who
deceptively market them, having explained the reasons many times over
the years.

I agree "many" E-Tecs certainly the huge majority will probably survive
but remember even when they called them Ficht the majority survived. Of
course statistics from the manufacturer like 4 out of five didn't fail
doesn't mean much if you are number 5, as far as number 5 is concerned
the failure rate is 100%. We actually have people in this NG who claimed
to have bought more!!!!; what? just to get the failure percentages
down:-) But those claims are just that; NG claims from lonely boring non
boating nuffnuffs.

I genuinely hope yours is fine & being a smaller HP there's lots of
reason the say it will be. But please keep that warranty in shape even
if it means feeding a dealer:-)
