Have you ever heard of a product liability case involving dentures?

Is there a warranty period concerning dentures?

Just curious.

Some labs warranty dentures against breaking for a certain period of time.
I, as a dentist, warranty my work...but it's an unwritten warranty. If you
came in to my office with a problem on a denture that I made in the last
year or two, I'd likely correct the problem without a charge.

What kind of problem are we talking about?

For example let's say that a 1/2 square piece at the rear of the upper
plate broke off while eating an apple - just for the sake of
discussion let's say. And, just discussing this, almost choked the
person wearing same.

Is this a complete upper denture...or a partial denture?

On complete dentures, I tell patients not to expect to be able to bite
anything hard with their front teeth...unless they get implants to help
retain the denture.

Some patients have a very strong bite, and severe atrophy of the anterior
maxilla. This creates a long lever arm, and imparts too much stress on the
denture when biting with the front teeth.

Unfortunately, not much can be done to prevent it from happening...except
for fabricating the base plate out of an alloy...which is something I
fortunately haven't had to do yet.
