I just had an experience with the float in my carburetor sticking after
several months of storage. I was able to resolve the issue by hard tapping on the outside of the carburetor but I'm wondering if there is any way to prevent this. I am a "snowbird" and leave my boat in storage in Florida all summer long. Welcome any suggestions.... Thanks. |

If you do not use a fuel preservative such as "Store-N-Start" I recommend
you try it. I've been using it for decades and have never had a fuel related problem. When I lived in colder climes I would use it for fall layup. Now I use it anytime my plans for more than about a month don't include using the boat. I also recommend an in-line cannister type fuel filter to eliminate water from the fuel entering your carburetor. Butch "Kellielabs" wrote in message ink.net... I installed a fuel shut off (or just disconnect the fuel line assuming
a mechanical, not an electrical fuel pump). For storage I shut off the fuel, put on the muffs and run the carb dry. The extra work though is to remove each spark plug and squirt the fogging oil directly into each cylinder ... but ... it's worth removing the plugs anyway and checking them ... plug condition offers insight into the engine condition. And coming out of storage, I top up the carb via the carb air vent (4 bbl) with a cleaner, let it sit, then turn on the gas and start it up ... 1983 4 bbl .. no work done on it to date that I'm aware of. To sum up .... store the carb dry. |
