One of my union clients provides a "supplemental" program to its Canadian members to cover those items. Dues subsidize the cost of the program, so the out-of-pocket to the Canadian union member approaches zero. I buy my health insurance from my union, It's expensive, but the deductibles are zip and the co-pays are low. I pay $15 for a doctor's office visit. It's a PPO plan, and so far the few doctors I've seen through the program are first-rate. If I need an Rx, the generics are $5 to $8, and the "name brands" are 20% of the regular price. When working, my wife & I had two plans to cover prescriptions, eye glasses, private hospital room...even massages if you needed one. My plan disappeared when I retired but she is still included under her company's family plan, but must pay half the costs ($80.00 CDN per month) |
