A friend works for a maker of CDC machining equipment. He and his team are
responsible for programming the things after they're delivered and
installed. He tells me that Toyota and the American makers use many of the
same machines, but the Americans request looser tolerances, particularly for
engine blocks. They take this a step further by rejecting fewer marginal
parts.
His company has Japanese engineerng students on board for internships. When
they see how the Americans fail to take advantage of equipment that's
capable of producing far more accuracy, they scratch their heads and
wonder.....
I don't wonder. Too many US manufacturing corporations are infested with
MBAs and others who are obsessed with the short-term bottom line.
Now MBA's are bad guys? What about Ann Richards?
Are only Republicans earning MBA's these days?
You are a card, Harry!
