It looks like it is going to take me some time to find the part so
can anyone give me an idea as to how long I have to run the boat?

I don't feel much play in the crank pully when not running.

What will happen? Will the crankshaft pully/dampener fall off?
Crankshaft break?

Thank-you for all the good info. Yes it is the 292 chevy block.The 200
hp mercruiser was only sold for a couple of years 1969 -1972.

The marine owner says I need a crankshaft dampener for two pully's but
why would that change the internal make-up of the dampener? Is it
because I have a sea pump and an alternator and therefore need two
pullys on one dampener?

Tom be careful about this, GM had a propensity to externally balance their engines when they increased the
capacity by just stroking them (is the 292 just a stroked 250?? or did they bore it?? longer stroke, bigger
crankshaft throws, oops run out of room & camshaft clearance for internal balance weights, so put weights on the
flywheel/balancer/damper). Before you let anyone go putting just any balancer from that series of blocks on, you
should make enquiries of an engine rebuilding shop or even a knowledgeable GM repairer to ensure the balancer you
fit is indeed correct for that capacity of GM 6 cyl & it's particular flywheel, crankshaft & balancer setup.

I've never heard of a 200hp version, I think the 200hp would be the
292cu. in. chevy/GMC I'm not sure if the balancer would be the same, but
you could check in the local auto parts. The 292 came in chevy/GMC vans
