Depending on the sounder, the specific installation details of the
transducer, and the speed of the boat, the sounder may not always be
believable. You must ALWAYS act as though the sounder does not exist. It's
sort of like your nose vs the kitchen timer or meat thermometer.

Should be fine......just keep a weather eye and beware the shallows.
Make
sure you have a chart of the area. Cell phone should not be a problem.

Mitch, if I were getting prop strikes and my depth finder was reading 6 feet,
I'd be checking my depth finder. Something isn't right, unless you hit something
like a tree stump projecting frrom the bottom.

You should have a paper chart of the area you're in. A GPS is a nice back-up,
until it breaks.

Agreed. Electronics are strange. I regularly fish in an area which,
according to my anchor line, is about 8 feet deep. It's loaded with long,
vertical weeds (aka "bass motel"). The sounder says it's 70 feet deep - same
sounder that works beautifully everywhere else.
