That's the sort of statement that makes me nervous, "beware the
shallows"... I have a depth sounder, but I've still had prop strikes
when sounder indicates 6 feet deep.

Should be fine......just keep a weather eye and beware the shallows. Make
sure you have a chart of the area. Cell phone should not be a problem.
