Are you enjoying the Nifty Nuthouse nuts and cap? Got another question for you...What do you think of the following statement? "We once had a regular poster identified as "Skipper" here; a non-boater and a negatively oriented trouble seeker. Skipper seems to have dropped out of sight completely..." Got another question for you, Chucky, how would you respond to a rather short chubby fellow sporting either a Greek fisherman's or Commodore's cap who angles up to you and begs to be your exclusive boat broker in the NW? How would you feel about that fellow if you gave him a positive response to his request and he failed to check out the only two boats you specifically asked him in investigate, a Skookum in Anacortes and a Northcoast across the bay in Lake Union? Naw. Is Skipper back from the dead? ROTFLMAO. I don't know if there's more to this letter than the snippet found here, but This can't be Skipper. First of all, this person describes somebody (me?) as being "rather short and chubby". Now one would have to evaluate "short" and "chubby" from some frame of reference, or so I would assume. At an average height of just a whisker under 6-feet, there are people who will never see the top of my bald head unless I'm sitting down and they're standing up. Not to say that all members of the general population that are shorter than I am are correspondingly lighter than I am. I'll leave it at that. Assuming the short and chubby fellow this imposter imagines is supposed to be me (I often wear a greek fisherman's cap in the winter), there is additional proof that the author cannot be Skipper. While I have met Skipper in the past and shown him a couple of boats, I never "angled up to him" (how the heck would I have even recognize him?) and "begged" for anything. He called on me at my place of business, so any "angling up" was done from his side of my desk after he sought me out. If I recall correctly, from all those many years ago, Skipper only contacted me to check out these boats *after* he was already working deals through other brokers on them. I think there was some conversation concerning the advisability of picking an exclusive broker in the area rather than asking 2-3 brokers to get involved in the potential sales end of every boat that seemed mildly interesting from Wichita. Certainly there was no "begging", (and the real Skipper would know that). Maybe he wanted a freebie look-see and opinion, prior to hiring a surveyor? Anyway, the real Skipper probably to this day wonders why I knew early on he probably wasn't going to be a buyer. It was a small thing, really. Had nothing to do with the fact that his wife always went "shopping" while he was wandering up and down the docks looking at boats. Had nothing to do with his lies about boating through localized "torito" hurricanes down in Mexico, (in a 22-foot Bayliner lined with portable gas cans). Had nothing to do with any of those things. So, to the imposter posting the open letter trying to imply that he's Skipper, here's a "what would you think" question back to you: What would you think of a guy who rambled on and on about taking up bluewater cruising in retirement, but who was married to a woman who was *deathly afraid* of the water? Wouldn't it be memorable if a grown woman were so terrified when she put a foot onto the deck of a 38-foot boat (and it rocked ever so slightly under her weight) that she recoiled in horror and almost fell down leaping back to the dock? Can't imagine who that guy with the terrified wife might be, but maybe if the Skipper imposter looks up the short, chubby guy with the fisherman's hat he might ask if the guy and his disintersted, aquaphobic wife ever bought a boat for offshore cruising in retirement. Final evidence the imposter isn't Skipper: His open letter is dripping with malice. What sort of total a-hole would carry a grudge for all those years? Skipper may be many things, and not all of them positive, but a total a-hole wouldn't be on the list. |
