Default Open Letter to a Relative of a 9-11 Victim

NOYB,
You took the bait hook line and sinker. : )

???Huh???

I've seen cold and heartless, but somethings go beyond even the lowest
standards of decency...and "this be one of 'em".

Tammy,
You suck.

Dear Relative of a 9-11 Victim:

In less than one month, the world will commemorate an alleged crime
that may cause you to regress into deep depression, angst and
uncontrollable weeping.

Yes, this will be your moment to shine if you are a relative of the
2,800 unlucky losers in the Death Lotto held by Osama Bin Laden on
September 11, 2001 in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

It is understandable that you may feel an aching emptiness and pangs
of loss as the celebration gets underway. Yes, you have every right to
shed a tear or two, even sniffle a bit into a frilly hankie.

And no one will begrudge you if you let out a plaintive, shrieking
wail as they play videos of little Gumby-like figures leaping from the
100th floor as the left tower falls like a souffle.

Yet, it is important to warn the survivors of 9-11 victims that you
should not "rain on our parade" as we collectively mark the one year
anniversary of this terrorist incident with backyard barbecues, happy
hours that go a little long, "I Love Lucy" television marathons and
towing water skiers.

The whole point of celebrating the second anniversary of 9-11 is to
"turn that frown upside down" as we gather up the family to page
through glorious colour photos of the World Trade Centers' collapse
that took the lives of relatives that at least belonged to other
families than our own.

For the past 23 months we have tried to accommodate your prolonged
grieving by affixing American flags to our car windows. You never
heard us complain, but please know how annoying the constant "pfft,
pfft, pfft" of that damn nylon can be as the tiny flag slaps against
glass as we speed down the highway to the local Indian casino.

It is now time for the relatives of 9-11 crime victims to "let bygones
be bygones." After all, Osama Bin Laden has never been charged with a
crime, he has never been tried in a court of law and has clearly shown
his capacity for rehabilitation: The Sears Tower is still standing two
years after 9-11-01.

The people who suffered a true loss are the surviving kin of those
killed in conflicts like World War I/II and Vietnam. There, young
heroes gave up their lives fighting for the freedom that allows us to
go to Universal Studios at will, take our boats out for an all day
cruise and otherwise pursue happiness.

The victims of 9-11 died defending nothing. They were just economy
class airline passengers or cheating Wall Street arbitragers who will
lucky to be missed by their snarling pet ferrets.

Let's not let the relatives of 9-11 victims ruin our second
anniversary gala. Those party poopers can mope around the graveyard
looking for the overgrown headstones of their loved ones.

Meanwhile, we will hoist a tall, cold one as a salute to a day that
made us proud to own a large screen TV.
