This is a new low, even for Harry. So you're saying pointing out the complete ineptness of our government to provide basic food, shelter and safety should be ignored because it makes some politicians look bad? Yeah, screw the needy, let's make sure the white collar criminals don't look bad. bb At three days after the event (Katrina) we are talking about people without water and food. In Florida, everyone had food and water after the hurricanes, we all keep a supply handy in case of a hurricane. Every season we are told hundreds of times to keep food and water on hand. I've got 40 gallons of diesel fuel and a generator already connected to my home/business. That's enough for 5 days of 100% power for everything except the water heater, clothes drier and Electric stove. At 6 miles inland and 27 feet above sea level I'm safe from the 25 foot storm surges of a cat 5. I expect damage to my building and keep ropes and tarps on hand to fix leaks in the roof. The people seaward of me I'd take in on a temp basis until they found permanent housing. Why isn't this being done in Louisiana? Someone needs to say this nationally if only to keep it from being repeated. Your first duty is to be prepared for the safety of yourself and your family. To depend totally on the government or others is to make yourself dependant. Inept government, hmmmm the government you deserve. That's wonderful for you. Unlikely many impoverished people are as well-equipped. To not have food and water for 3 days Harry?? Oh, they eat out every night..... Must be rich then cause I can't afford to eat out. For the Hurricane I just buy a couple of cans of Spam, canned chicken, Dintymore beef stew some canned vegatables and fill a couple of old milk bottles. Total cost $30.00 Jeff, you're obviously talking about people with some sense. There are a whole potful of people who don't have the sense God gave a goose, but that's Bush's fault. Another Kooky Kompassionate Konservative. I live in the real world (red state) Harry where HONEST opinions and comments are appreciated by honest and open minded people. It has nothing to do with race but with mindset. I want nothing but the best for my fellow man not a subclass that can be enslaved with low wages because they can't think for themselves. Being politically correct can not help people with their head up their ass. Harry will tell you that the poor looters/shooters (none of whom looked under fed) don't have the resources to save $30 worth of food over a several year period. Remember, the phrase 'honest and open minded' doesn't apply here! -- John H "All decisions are the result of binary thinking." |

Why
hasn't the *Louisiana* National Guard been mobilized by the friggin' LA governor? Don't need to hear any Iraq crap either! Doug Kanter wrote: Actually, you *do* need to hear some Iraq crap, because we're getting stretched pretty thin. Yeah, right... the house is burning down and they DON'T NEED TO HEAR any crap about the kid playing with matches. Sure the local officials haven't done well, but where is FEMA? Where's the "Dept of Homeland Security"? All that has happened is we have an extra layer of gov't bureaucrats to blame each other and make excuses. The policy of the Bush Administration has been to replace professional administrators with yes-men & butt-kissers & ideologues chosen for their personl loyalty to the Bush family... and now you want them to actually *do* something? Ha! DSK DSK |

Perhaps the whole mess would be in better shape if the incompetent locals (city and state) were taken out of the equation. -- John H "All decisions are the result of binary thinking." |
