ripping down power line faster
than reconstruction crews can put them up, so they can sell the copper

Bull****, overhead lines are AA8000 aluminum/steel alloy, there isn't

Excuse me, ripping down power lines so they can sell the AA8000
aluminum/steel alloy

It has no particular scrap value. "Aluminum" recyclers don't want it.

They will if power companies are buying it up by the trainload to
replace downed power lines.

Is it really this difficult for you to get a point? Would a catcher's
mitt help?

When you are making **** up I have a hard time catching it. The power
company has no use for a piece of wire someone could carry. They work
off of 1000' spools. They are not going to be splicing short pieces
together.

That all depends on how desperate they are for wire...

Which, I believe, was Doug's point.

Agreed, but sometimes "the worst thing" is exactly what happens, often
out of expediency. And it's not just power lines, it's every kind of
part used in our infrastructure that could torn out and resold. That is
exactly what has happened in quite a few places, so far it hasn't
happened in Katrina's wake.

The mere fact that this thread started by talking about "copper" tells
me it is a hoax.

Hoax? I was making a point about how the looting was not quite as bad as
all the shoot-on-sight compassionate conservatives were saying.

He spent some time as a nurse getting shot at while attending the sick in a
