: Hello all....just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with OMC : engines. I just purchased a 17' Arrow Glass with a 4.3 Litre OMC I/O : engine. The problem I'm having is with the power steering. It doesnt : appear that the power steering is working at all. I've greased : everything that is greasable and checked the power steering fluid : levels. Is there any way to tell whether the pump is bad? On another : subject, (this is really stupid), is the tilt/trim the same thing? I : have a button on the control handle and another one about 3 inches : away. Are these two things the same and why have them so close : together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have an '82 OMC V6. The 4.3 is essentially a 350 CI V8 block w/ two cylinders lopped off. Tilt is for bring up the drive unit when trailering/beaching. Trim changes the angle of the prop relative to the hull while running. On my OMC, the tilt is a spring loaded toggle switch on the dash. The trim is located as a rocker switch on the shift/throttle. It controls the attitude of the boat under power. Trim in (toward transom), the nose goes down. Good for pulling skiers outta the water. Trim out (away from transom), nose goes up and the boat rides more toward the transom vs. wetting the entire hull. Less drag, more speed, not as stable. Power steering.... need to look at pressure. If your belt is there, it's likely that the pump is out. Also check to make sure it has PS fluid present. b. |
