I've just a got old 4 hp mariner (maybe late 80's model). I need to
remove the fuel hose from the internal gas tank connector. it's
extremely tight, is there a special tool for that? there's some kind
of decoupler between this hose and the one going to the carburator,
what is the purpose of this thing, is it simply just a decoupler? any
comments are welcomed. this is my first outboard. thanks.

ps. the reason i wanted to remove the hose is because fuel is leaking
from the connetion between the tank and the rod that's controlling the
open/close valve.

A special wrench called a "Line Wrench" will give more sides of the wrench
in contact with the brass fittings than a common open end wrench that only
gives two sides in contact. A "Line Wrench" can usually be purchased at an
automotive parts store or a tool supply company, or even Sears.

Use caution not to rip the mating connector out of the tank.
