Took my brother-in-law fishing yesterday. He'd been out on the boat once before,
but hooked only a cow-nosed ray which kept him busy for a half hour. But it eventually went under the boat and broke the line. Yesterday was fun. The weather was close to perfect, maybe a little less heat would have been nice. The breeze was in the 3-5 mph range, and the water was virtually flat. Beautiful day for trolling for stripers. We trolled a mixture of spoons, bucktails, and an umbrella rig. Several times we'd have take-downs, only to discover the plastic bitten off the lures, so some blues must have been out there lurking around. We trolled from about 7:30 until 10:00 with only the action from the blues. Finally, as we were talking about going after some perch, a line went down and Gary pulled in an 18 1/16 inch striper (just borderline). Within the next half hour we caught two more in the 18-19" range, and then caught a 22"er about a half hour later. That was the limit, so we headed for home. "If it ain't fried, it ain't food!" So last night we had deep-fried rockfish filets for dinner. Yummy good! -- John H. On the 'PocoLoco' out of Deale, MD |
